This not to miss Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition in Madrid is not a chronological but a theme one. It shows his 35yr trajectory in the fashion world: his sailors, objetcs, alternative jewelry designs, his parisinian women, you name it…
The are many reasons why Jean Paul Gaultier has become one of the most creative fashion designer ever and an inspiration to many other world designers, including myself. Let me just mention a few.
He is a “enfant terrible” able to capture his dreams and fantasies in risky and innovative designs.
He has a great and groundbreaking creative capacity: how he makes men wear again the kilt independently of being or not Scottish, or how he mixes styles and shapes as with the Madonna´s gaultier corset.
The colorful designs, the power he is able to transmit only using color, and how he continuosly breaks the mold and mixes styles is another good reason to like his creations.
He is a big fan of Spain and its culture. Spain has inspired many of his spectacular fashion designs. Examples of this are the bullfighter´s jackets that women around the world combine with an evening dress, or wear them for a grand gala or with a more casual chic while glamorous and carefree jean, while never forgetting elegance.
His great ability to see that beauty is in everything. As he says, “you have to look without conditions and prejudices in order to see a different and total beauty”.
But what I like the most of Jean Paul Gaultier is that he defines himself as a great craftsman. And as you may already know, high quality craftsmanship is one of the leitmotifs of each elajoyas handmade luxury jewelry design.
So if you travel to Madrid and want to see something you will not forget, visit the Gaultier exhibition!
